How reliable is the Honda Accord model year 1998-2002?

So I have always liked the 1998-2002 Honda Accord but I've heard they have transmission and V6 engine issues. I've heard the auto transmissions are especially bad! Well I wanted to get a 4cyl with a 5 speed manual and was curious how these cars hold up? If anyone has reliable resources or personal experience your feedback would be appreciated! Also if you could tell me your 4 cyl MPG that would be nice as well.
