Why is my ex contacting me?

My ex broke up with me just a week ago. He tried to text me and drop stuff off at my doorstep within that week. Those texts clearly said he is sorry and want to be friends, even though he mentioned before we broke up we wouldn't be friends when we do break up. He is a hypocrite for making this move. Why would he bother coming back?
